What is court reporting?
Court reporters create accurate records of spoken words in legal proceedings and other settings requiring verbatim documentation.
Programs
What programs does NACR offer?
NACR offers two pathways into the court reporting profession: Stenographic Court Reporting and Voice Writing.
What's the difference between Stenographic Court Reporting and Voice Writing?
Stenographic reporters use a specialized stenographic machine and professional software to capture the spoken record. Voice writers use specialized voice-writing equipment and technology.
Online Classes
Are NACR classes online?
Yes. NACR provides distance education through online instruction, coursework, guided practice, technology training, and independent practice.
Program Length
How long does the Voice Writing program take?
The Voice Writing program is approximately 12 months.
How long does the Stenographic Court Reporting program take?
The Stenographic Court Reporting program is approximately 24 months. Actual completion time may vary depending on individual progress and approved transfer credit.
Tuition & Fees
How much is tuition?
Tuition for the Voice Writing program is $9,000. Tuition for the Stenographic Court Reporting program is $12,000.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. NACR offers monthly payment options for both programs.
Is there an application fee?
Yes. The application fee is $100.
Enrollment
When do classes begin?
The next cohort begins January 4, 2027. Future cohort dates will be announced as they become available.
Graduation & Certification
What do I receive when I graduate?
Students who successfully complete all graduation requirements receive an official Certificate of Completion from NACR.
Does graduating from NACR make me professionally certified?
No. NACR prepares students to pursue professional certification, but certification is awarded independently by professional organizations and has separate eligibility requirements.
